About Agape Learning Design

Gary Bartanus
I build online learning spaces that honour both the mind and the spirit—working to restore wholeness and dignity to every learner, so that each one feels profoundly seen.
Community Service
Co-Creating Healthcare Solutions with Empathy
Serving Our Local Community
Kristy and I were thrilled to volunteer at Island Health’s 2025 Code Hack, a healthcare-focused hackathon at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria. Kristy participated as an Ally while I contributed as a Designer, leveraging my skills in learning design and team facilitation.
Our team tackled the challenge of reducing senior isolation near the end of life by proposing an affordable multigenerational housing model to help elders stay connected and age with dignity. I had the privilege of opening our presentation, using my experience in narrative crafting. The weekend was vibrant and inspiring, filled with passionate individuals, including a joyful physician from Nepal who showcased the power of kindness and optimism.
Audio-Visual & Technical Ministry
Supporting Collective Spaces
During my time as an AV Guy at Rest Haven SDA Church, I had the privilege of working with an inspiring team who were such a blessing to me with their warmth and enthusiastic approach to glorifying God through collaboration, mutual “agape-style” respect, and openness to innovation. From the team leadership on down, everyone was dedicated to selfless service and lifting up the community.
This Spirit-led experience allowed me to grow as a technician and as a Christian, forging lasting friendships and gaining valuable lessons in faith, teamwork, and true agape love. Adam, Louise, Harley, and the team didn’t only talk the talk. They walked it, as Jesus did! Hallelujah!

The Agape Methodology

ADDIE-Informed Architecture
Structure in service of the learner
Every project moves through a disciplined cycle — Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, Evaluate — but the cycle is held by a single question: what does this learner need to flourish?
The framework keeps the work rigorous; the mission keeps it warm. Evaluation sits at the centre, because good design listens before it concludes.
Stewardship of Multimedia Production
Aside from expertise in adult learning theory, UX design best practices, and pedagogy, another factor that distinguishes Agape Learning Experience Design is a unique capacity for producing engaging and effective multimedia content in a fully equipped in-house studio. This significantly reduces the need to pay additional fees to external video production companies, voiceover artists, and on-camera talent. It also results in engaging, transformative learning.

Interview With Thrive Magazine
Backstory: Because of the unprecedented 98.6% employee completion rate of a 2021 project in which I used green screen, advanced multimedia editing, and a bit of acting talent, I found myself honoured with the title of the "Face of Federal Training." This resulted in the interview shown below.
